The MIC59P60 serial input latch driver is a high voltage (80V), high current (500mA) integrated circuit consisting of 8 CMOS data latches, bipolar Darlington transistor drivers for each latch and CMOS control circuits used in common CLEAR, STROBE, CLOCK, Serial data input and output enable functions. Similar to the MIC5842, additional protection circuits provided on this device include thermal shutdown, lock-in under voltage (UVLO), and overcurrent shutdown.

Functional Diagram and Pin Configuration

The bipolar /CMOS combination provides an extremely low power latch with maximum interface flexibility. The MIC59P60 features an open-collector output that can be reduced by 500mA, integrated diodes for inductive load transient suppression, and a minimum output breakdown voltage rated at 80V(50V sustained). The driver can operate with a separated power supply, where negative power is reduced to -20V, and can be shunt in parallel for higher load current capability.

Typical Applications

Using a 5V logic power supply, the MIC59P60 usually operates above 5MHz. Higher speeds can be achieved by using 12V logical power. CMOS input is compatible with standard CMOS, PMOS and NMOS circuits. TTL circuits may require pull-up resistors. By using serial data output, drivers can be cascaded to interface applications that require additional drive lines. Each of these eight outputs has an independent overcurrent shutdown of 500 mA.

Typical characteristic curve

Upon overcurrent shutdown, the affected channel will close and the flag will drop to low until the VDD cycle or ENABLE/RESET pin pulse is high. Current pulses smaller than 2µs will not trigger current shutdown. Temperatures above 165°C will shut down the device and activate the error flag. UVLO circuit prevents operation at low VDD; Provides 0.5V hysteresis.
