Infineon has launched SEMPER™ Nano NOR Flash memory. The memory is specially optimized for use in small, battery-powered electronic devices. New wearable and industrial applications such as fitness trackers, smart headsets, health monitors, drones and GPS navigation are emerging, helping to achieve more functions such as accurate tracking, recording critical information, enhancing security and reducing noise. These advanced features and usage scenarios require larger memory capacities in smaller electronic devices. According to Omdia, the market for Bluetooth headsets and headsets is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 25% to exceed 1 billion by 2024.

As the demand for memory grows, designers face the additional challenge of fitting more memory into limited board space while maximizing battery life. Infineon SEMPER Nano NOR Flash is the first solution of its kind on the market to offer customers the advantages of high power density, small board area, and industry-leading low power consumption, with strong engineering and design support.

Sandeep Krishnegowda, Vice President, Flash Memory Solutions Marketing and Application, Infineon Technologies, said, "There are a variety of innovative applications on the horizon that promise to revolutionize the way we live, and semiconductors are playing a key role in this. By using the increasingly smart gadgets in our lives, we can make better health choices and keep our loved ones safe by keeping track of their physical condition. With SEMPER Nano, we are able to provide more storage capacity in extremely compact Spaces, enabling customers to add more functionality to their smart devices, while enhancing system reliability with built-in ECC."

The Infineon SEMPER Nano NOR Flash Flash products are available in both industrial and commercial 256 Mbit 1.8V configurations with SPI throughput up to 40 Mbyte/s for industry-leading standby and effective current. Built-in error correction codes (ECC) enhance reliability, and configurable sector architectures enable optimization of code or data storage.

The SEMPER Solutions Hub provides full support for this product family. It is a one-stop site containing all the modules needed to integrate SEMPER Nano NOR Flash Flash into various applications. The site also has accompanying software, tools, and resources that streamline the entire design process and help designers get products to market faster. The new SEMPER Nano Pmod compatible memory module can be used to easily build a hardware development platform.
