Intersil's latest products are two new high-performance, single-output low-dropout (LDO) regulators that provide best-in-class low-dropout and transient performance for noise-sensitive loads. The ISL80510 and ISL80505 provide continuous output currents of 1A and 0.5A and ultra-low voltage drops of 130mV and 45mV, respectively, at full load. The ISL80510's maximum voltage drop is nearly 50% lower than its closest competitor, reducing power consumption in industrial, wired and wireless devices.
The ISL80510 / 05 LDO also provides better transient performance, with peak-to-peak drift that is nine times lower than competing LDOs. This transient performance level and 1.8% DC accuracy prevent voltage undershoot and overshoot, thereby providing clean load point voltages for CPUs, DSPs, and MCUs that demand stringent voltage accuracy and low noise. The ISL80510 / 05's compensation loop provides excellent noise filtering by maintaining a flat power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) response over a wide frequency range.
The ISL80510 operates from an input voltage of 2.2V to 6V, while the ISL80505 supports voltages of 1.8V to 6V. The output voltage of these LDOs can be adjusted from 0.8V to 5.5V, which enables designers to cover a wide range of applications, including low-power RF amplifiers, communication equipment, industrial process control systems, test instruments, medical equipment and consumer network router . . The company said that the adjustable soft-start feature enables designers to control the input inrush current and set the start-up time to accommodate any power-up sequencing requirements.
