Microchip has introduced the PIC32 Harmony software decoder framework and Microsoft Windows Media Audio (WMA) decoder library for consumer audio application development based on 32-bit PIC32 microcontrollers (MCUs) in the MPLAB Harmony integrated software framework. The WMA decoder library includes a new modular framework for audio decoders, which includes support for MP3 and AAC, making development of audio applications easier. Microchip's audio decoder framework allows audio software codecs to be easily added to PIC32 design projects. After purchasing the corresponding decoder library, the framework does not need to rewrite most of the application code, but can be more easily integrated into existing customer applications. In addition to MP3 and AAC, WMA decoders also increase the library depth of audio decoders supported by PIC32 MCUs. This increases the range of audio formats that designers can choose to support. The audio decoder framework in a harmonious environment makes it easy for designers to add, subtract, and switch between various software-based audio decoders. In addition, including the WMA decoder gives developers a wider set of options and supports audio playback. The WMA decoder library is targeted at low-cost applications in the consumer market, such as audio docks, home audio receivers, and car hosts. It gives developers greater flexibility in decoder options for playback from internal or removable media. Building on existing USB and Bluetooth streaming audio solutions, the addition of a WMA decoder library further expands the flexibility of audio applications based on PIC32 designs. Microchip's free MPLAB Harmony integrated software framework and PIC32 Bluetooth Audio Development Kit (DV320032) support the Microsoft WMA decoder library.
