The AD7224 is a precision 8-bit voltage output, digital-to-analog converter, output amplifier and dual buffered interface logic on a single chip CMOS chip. No external decoration is required to achieve the full specified performance of this part. The dual-buffer interface logic consists of two 8-bit registers -- an input register and a DAC register. Only the data in the DAC register determines the analog output of the converter.

Functional block diagram

Dual buffering allows simultaneous updates in systems containing multiple AD724s. Both registers can be transparent under the control of three external lines CS, WR, and LDAC. Since both registers are transparent, the RESET row functions like a zero overlay; A useful function for system calibration cycle. All logic inputs are TTL and CMOS (5 V) horizontally compatible, and control logic is compatible with most 8-bit microprocessor speeds.

Pin configuration

When using dual power supplies, ensure the specified performance of the input reference voltage from + 2v to + 12.5V. The unit is also specified for single-power operation with a reference voltage of +10 V. The output amplifier is capable of developing +10 V on 2 kΩ loads. The AD7224 is manufactured using a full ion implanted high-speed linearly compatible CMOS (LC2 MOS) process, which was specifically developed to integrate high-speed digital logic circuits and precision analog circuits on the same chip.

Product characteristics

1) DAC and Amplifier on CMOS Chip

Single-chip designs for 8-bit Dacs and output amplifiers are inherently more reliable than multi-chip designs. CMOS manufacturing means low power consumption (typical power consumption of a single power supply is 35 mW).

2) Low total unadjusted error

The AD7224 is manufactured using a simulator linear-compatible CMOS (LC2 MOS) process. Coupled with a novel DAC switch alignment, the AD7224 achieves an excellent total unadjusted error of less than 1 LSB over the full operating temperature range

3) Single or dual power supply

The AD7224's voltage mode configuration allows operation from a single power track. The unit can also be operated with dual power supplies to improve performance on certain parameters

4) Universal interface logic

High speed logic allows direct interface to most microprocessors. In addition, the dual buffering interface enables simultaneous updating of the AD7224 in multiple DAC systems. The unit also has zero coverage
