Texas Instruments' DLPA3005 is a highly integrated power management IC optimized for DLP Pico projector systems. With an integrated high-efficiency step-down controller, it supports LED projectors up to 16A per LED. In addition, the driver controls the RGB switches and supports R, G and B LED sequencing. The DLPA3005 includes five buck converters, two of which are dedicated to DLPC low voltage power supplies. Another dedicated regulated power supply generates three timing-critical DC power supplies for the DMD: VBIAS, VRST, and VOFS. The DLPA3005 contains several auxiliary blocks that can be used flexibly. This enables a tailored Pico projector system. For example, three 8-bit programmable buck converters can be used to drive the FAN of an RGB projector or make auxiliary power lines. Universal Buck2 (PWR6) is currently supported, and other versions may be available in the future. Two LDOs can be used for low current power supplies with a maximum current of 200 mA. LDO is predefined as 2.5V and 3.3V. Through the SPI, all modules of the DLPA3005 can be addressed. The company said that the included features include the generation of a system reset, power sequencing, input signals for sequential selection of active LEDs, IC self-protection, and analog MUX for routing analog information to external ADCs.
