Aldec introduced the new TySOM M-MPFS250 and expanded its TySOM family of embedded prototype boards, the first product in the program to feature a Microchip PolarFire SoC FPGA MPFS250T-FCG1152 with dual FMC connectivity.

Microchip's PolarFire SoC FPGAs provide low power consumption, superior thermal efficiency and defense-grade security for smart, connected systems. It is also the first SoC FPGA to offer a coherent RISC-V CPU cluster and a deterministic L2 memory subsystem that can run Linux and real-time applications.

The mainboard has 16Gb FPGA DDR4 X32 and 16Gb MSS DDR4 X36 memory. It has ECC, eMMC, SPI Flash memory, 64Kb EEPROM and microSD card slot. In addition to dual FMC connections, there are two Ethernet 10/100/1000, one USB 2.0, one USB to UART bridge, one PCIe X4 Gen2 root, CAN and HDMI OUT ports for external communication.

"The Microchip PolarFire SoC FPGA device is the lowest power multi-core SoC FPGA on the market," commented Krishnakumar R, Product Marketing and Mi-V Ecosystem Manager at Microchip Technology. "PolarFire SoC FPgas also support three layers of security that protect hardware, design, and data, plus each processor core has physical memory protection that enforces access restrictions based on the privileged state of the machine. Aldec decided to use PolarFire SoC FPGas in its new TySOM-M series, which will enable users to design a large number of applications that require low power consumption and high security."

Zibi Zalewski, General Manager of Aldec's Hardware division, added: "Our TySOM-M launch board inherits all the features and benefits of PolarFire SoC FPgas. These, combined with the development board's own features and advantages, provide engineers with a highly versatile platform for developing applications that cost less than those targeted at ARM cores. In addition, the board's ability to connect to two FMC sub-cards means it can be used in almost any industry without the need to develop custom hardware. This is really a powerful plug and play solution."
