Toshiba Electronics Components and Memory announced the expansion of its Smart gate drive optocoupler product line with the introduction of the "TLP5222" smart gate drive optocoupler with output current of 2.5A. It is an isolated gate drive IC that provides overcurrent protection for power devices such as MOSFET or IGBT, with built-in protection operation automatic recovery function.

TLP5222 is encapsulated with SO16L, which can ensure the creepage distance and electrical clearance of 8mm (minimum), and is applicable to equipment that needs to achieve high insulation performance. In addition, its rated operating temperature range is - 40 ℃ to 110 ℃, which is suitable for various applications in harsh temperature environment, such as photovoltaic power generation system and uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The series also includes TLP5212, TLP5214A and TLP5214. These three products do not have built-in automatic recovery function, but they can also be reset to normal operation by inputting LED signals. Users can select appropriate products for specific use conditions

   Internal Circuit

At the same time, TLP5222 continuously monitors the drain source voltage (VDS) [1] or collector emitter voltage (VCE) [2] of the power device it drives. The built-in over-current detection and protection function can detect any rise of VDS or VCE caused by over-current in the power device, and perform soft shutdown.

In addition, this new type of optocoupler also has an automatic recovery function, which is 25.5% after triggering the protection operation μ S (typical value) resets the optocoupler to the normal working state. This simplifies the sequence setup in the controller. It also integrates the fault isolation state feedback function, which can send fault signals to the controller once overcurrent is detected. At the same time, the active Miller clamping function can prevent short circuit of upper and lower bridge arm power devices [3], which helps simplify the design and reduce external circuits.
